Ship’s Position: 32°22.7’N, 064°40.8’W- Alongside at Penno’s Wharf, Saint George’s, Bermuda
Weather: 79.7°F, Scattered thunder showers
Remarks: After a beautiful night of sailing towards Bermuda, we fired up the main engine at 0700 to make a final approach to the island to make the pre-arranged pilot time. We were greeted with the pleasant voices of Bermuda radio asking how the passage from Anguilla went, and confirming pilot time. Carried sail all the way to the sea buoy. We steamed through the Town Cut while spectators watched. Zoe, our resident Bermudian, was assisting at the helm. The ship anchored at Powder Hole to clear in and then we shifted to go alongside. We threw our lines on to Penno’s Wharf and got the ship tied up well. The crew scrambled up the rigging to put nice harbor stows in all sail. Once the ship was tied up and the sails stowed we stopped for lunch of pizza that Donald whipped up. Post lunch we broke in to watches, Port watch taking the deck and Starboard watch cut loose. Port watch finishes up the last of the chafe gear, trims the yards, then finishes with a wash down. A big thunder storm rumbled through, which may be why the Captain wanted to go alongside.
