The day came in warm and balmy. Proper SE tradewinds are setting us along our way. Seas are modest, none greater than 5 or 6 feet. Yards are braced up sharp on the port tack. The Picton Castle heels a bit to starboard as she jogs along at 5 knots, with winds forward of the port beam. The gang is getting good at steering by the wind, as we are doing just now. People have gotten their “sea legs,” more or less. Routines are becoming less mysterious. Things are making more sense to most. We have talked and practised a good deal about sail handling. Yesterday we had a workshop on squalls and what to do during a squall. More to cover there but as an introduction considering local conditions we can expect, all to the good. Our first island, Anguilla, is just over the horizon. After all the effort this gang has put into getting the ship here, some sand in the toes, a good swim and a run ashore at a sweet Caribbean island could be just the thing.
