The day comes in partly cloudy with modest seas and light tradewinds on the starboard quarter. The Picton Castle sailed from St Helena yesterday noon after a bit of last minute food shopping and clearing out. The ship is bound for the Windward Islands of the Eastern Caribbean, with Grenada as our likely first port of call 3,700 miles away. Just now the ship is a bit over 1,000 miles west of Angola and about 1,200 miles south of the Ivory Coast, West Africa. Also about 15 degrees south of the equator and close to the longitude of Greenwich, England which is “0” degrees longitude.
The crew sailed the ship off the hook yesterday and did a fine job. Now we are under all plain sail, sailing broad on the port tack, steady as a church.
