On the way into Gloucester today the Captain took the ship through several tackings. This was a great experience for the new trainees, the whole crew in fact, because it gives us all the opportunity to use all of the skills and knowledge we have acquired during the voyage. The watches are given specific zones to work. By doing this the crew can also more clearly see the cause and effects of orders to sail handling to the end result of yards/sails moving. It is a practical lesson of the entire crew working together to make something happen.
