Remarks: At 03:30 the ship sailed across the Tropic of Cancer (23.27’N) marking the exit of tropical latitudes. Already people are starting to bring a layer to wear for night watch, but it is still scorching hot in the heat of the day. It was a busy day on deck. The fore t’gallant got sent down for repairs and sent back up before lunch. The gang is fast at bending that sail now. The main topmast stays’l also got switched to a newer stronger one. The afternoon had a busy class schedule – Sara teaching deck general after lunch, Spring teaching ditty bags, and Captain leading a workshop on anchoring. Before we knew it the workday was done and it was time to kick off an unprecedented mid-week marlinspike to celebrate being extra-tropical. Sometimes the time is right and you just need to have a little party, Sunday or no Sunday. Everyone came wonderfully dressed in sarongs and floral garments and Tammy got people’s feet moving with a Caribbean music playlist. Tandy the coconut attended and so did Nutmeg the puppy.
