Port anchor out with three shots of chain well in the water in 30’ in hard sand. Anchor holding nice
Weather: 85 degrees F, sunny with occasional light rain showers, gusty easterly winds.
Remarks: Starboard watch relieved Port watch at 0800 after spending two days ashore. Many crew spent their time checking out the white pristine beaches that surround the island, Grand Anse being stunning, and going on a tour of the ancient rum distillery built in the 1700s (and looks the part!), hiking to waterfalls, and filling up on passion fruit and soursop at the bustling Saturday market. It is the end of the dry season and most of the falls were quite dry, but still the scenery seems lush and green to any of us who have spent the last month at sea. Now it is port watch’s turn to soak in Grenada while starboard continues to keep the ship safe and of course, keep her up.
Today was a full day of provisioning supplies and dropping people and things off around the marina: Ship’s laundry, propane tanks to get refilled (the stove in the galley uses these as fuel), filling up gasoline jerry cans for the boats, trips to the hardware store and grocery store. Clara and Eric were kept busy driving the semi dory around coordinating these errands. Liam and Pearce were ashore working on fibre glassing the skiff which we have pulled in the lagoon for this work. Violet finished the foot roping on the new duradon course. Now it just needs one more wire splice and then we will have a usable sail. Dee rust busted part of the quarterdeck rail, a project that we will work on throughout the next month. Soon we will put our tools away and jump into the sea for our daily afternoon swim call to wash the dirt off. Can’t complain too much about these Caribbean workdays out on the hook
