Lunenburg Waterfront in Summer

The Lunenburg Waterfront can be a blast to the senses in the summer. A cacophony of sound from the Schooner Bluenose II or fishing vessel Maude Adams horns – signaling a voyage setting off. There are tour buses, yachts of all sizes, and a film crew here and there. This summer the waterfront has been transformed into Martha’s Vinyard for an upcoming Amazon TV show “We Were Liars”. We’ve had sail training ship Spirit of Bermuda as a neighbour before they headed off to the Lunenburg Shipyard. One of the daytime stages for the Folk Harbour Festival took place beside the ship in early August. The Shantymen from Mahone Bay shared their songs to an audience of Bluenose II crew, Bosun School students, and other folks on the decks of the Picton Castle. The Bluenose II crew and Bosun School students were all able to join in with Stan Roger’s “Barrett’s Privateers”! The Lunenburg DocFest is taking place later this month at the Opera House. In the lead-up to the festival, the organizers have been showing free documentaries on the Zwicker Wharf. It is a lovely way to spend a Monday night as fall sets in. Still summer but the winds feel cool these days
