Remarks: Port watch musters at 0800, but before breaking into ship’s work, we wish our beloved cook, Donald, a happy birthday. 17 years he has been with Picton Castle and his birthday is Juneteenth! Zoe and Sophia cook special treats to celebrate. Clara gives the new passage crew from Denmark, David and Jacob, a walk through and shows them the “ropes.” Dan replaces the trim on the forward end of the galley house. Danielle and Curtis oil the foc’sle head while Lisa oils the aloha deck and port breezeway. Figs (Edmund), David, and Jacob varnish the quarterdeck. Nate and Bruce hop in the skiff to make port topsides look as good as starboard topsides. Dee stitches a rope cover on the foot of the new course. Clara, David, Jacob and Dee sail Sea Never Dry up the bay and anchor her off of Elvis’s Beach Bar. Some of the watch breaks off at 1500 for a sunset sail on the beautiful Carriacou sloop Tradition. We see them scoon through the water near us as they toast us with their champagne glasses. A “busman’s holiday.” Tradition is a 50-foot Carriacou sloop built at Windward in 1978 for fishing, cargo, and perhaps the occasional smuggling trip to St Barts and back. Now she sails showing folks a great time around the waters of Anguilla.
