PICTON CASTLE IN THE SNOW!

Our beloved Barque PICTON CASTLE, now almost five months stuck stranded up on the slipways at Shelburne Ship Repair awaiting launch once the winch is repaired.

Winter struck with a vengeance here in early March. Cold, damp, wet, raw, snowy – not so much fun. How we all yearn for the balmy tradewinds.

Here are a few images that will tell a tale of these recent days ‘on the hard’ in Shelburne.

Looking forward from the quarterdeck along the port side.

The cargo hatch. Sight and location of many south seas dances and seamanship lessons.

Port fore-pinrail and rigging screws. That white stuff is frozen crystalized H20. It is called “snow” hereabouts. They say every flake of the stuff is unique and different. Looks the same to me….

Ice on the focsle ladder.

The focsle head as it appears this day. Anchor windlass and achor chain leading nowhere.

Focsle sky-light, fore-stays, bowspirit and jibboom jutting over…Shelburne.
