Regarding Hurricane Fiona now past.
After extensive preparations with extra hawsers and massive chafe gear we were as ready as we could be for a hurricane here in Lunenburg.
The winds picked up after dark. As did the rain. Starting around midnight It blew hard and harder – and cold – all through the night. But no seas. No swell, no surge at all. That is what causes the harm along the waterfront.
We were all fine here in Lunenburg the next day. There was little sign of a storm hereabouts, one tree leaning over here, a couple branches down here and there, but not much. Other places near here got beat up pretty bad. We sure got off light here in Lunenburg with Hurricane Fiona. No damage in this area to speak of. The power was out for only two minutes. Others in Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Atlantic Canada did not have it so easy.
We will leave the extra hawsers on as hurricane season is not over. But peace reigns for now in Lunenburg harbour.
