At 0730 this morning a blue whale visited close by, entertaining the sunrise 4-8 watch. We’re sailing along beautifully due southwest, light rain showers came and went causing a rainbow to form. We sailed underneath the colours, our white bow piercing through the South Pacific ocean salt waters – we were the treasure at the end of the rainbow. This morning the dayman teams assembled, the carpenters, Anders of Denmark, Colin of Nova Scotia, Canada and Braham of USA, cleared out the carpenter shop under the foc’sle head, inventoried and organized their tools and cleaned the space. The Captain introduced to the team some of the more obscure tools laid out. The rigging team, which consists of Vaiufia, of Tonga, and Brittni and Connor, of USA, worked together to replace the main t’gallant halyard fall. The on-duty watch began work on the aloha deck, giving the chocks a wire brushing and coat of primer. Chocks are steel structures on the ship’s rail through which mooring lines are led. Assistant engineer Liz, of New Brunswick, Canada, had the pleasure of taking apart the forward head pipes for cleaning. There is a betting pool on the ship’s arrival time to Pitcairn Island over 2,300 nautical miles away. More crew members are placing their bets on when we will arrive at Pitcairn, some are waiting until the final closing hour, being Wednesday, to place their educated guess.
