REMARKS: We had a crazy busy day today and the crew did a fantastic job. Coming into Portland the Parade of Sails began around 1330. On board we had several local media personnel doing, among other things, live newscasts which also made working around them a little interesting. The parade itself went really well – we were not only surrounded by the other ships but also by hundreds of other boats in all shapes and sizes. At approx 1600 we docked then began to quickly clean up the ship in preparation for a reception that began at 1800. Two things kept us all sane today – one, the fact that if we all pulled together and got the work done as a huge unit of people the work would go much more quickly. Two, a crew members family had delivered a huge birthday cake for everyone to enjoy. Nothing will put smiles on the faces of hard working tall ship sailors faster than unexpected baked goods!
