NOON POSITION: 20°01.5’S / 061°26.8’E
DAYS RUN: 60nm
PASSAGE DISTANCE RUN: 125nm
DISTANCE REMAINING: 351nm
COURSE AND SPEED: WNW 259T, 2.6 knots
WIND: Wind Force 2, ENE
WEATHER: fair,5/8 cloud, visibility excellent, barometer 1018 millibars
and steady
SWELL HEIGHT & DIRECTION: ExS 1m
SAILS SET: All sails set
SHIPS WORK: Got a coat of paint on the canvas hatch cover, which helps to keep it water tight (though there are both rubber and plastic tarpaulins underneath as well). Sent down the old mainsail and fore-t’gallant and bent a newer one in its place, getting ready for the Cape of Good Hope rounding. Sailmaking continues. And running rigging renewal.
REMARKS: Power shower after lunch. Tacking training this afternoon, but
not quite enough wind to make it around – we’ll try again when it’s a
bit breezier. We furled all sail and fired up the main engine to steam
through the night at 5pm.
